Right off the busy Lougheed highway between Mission and Maple Ridge lies a little gem of nature goodness.
The entrance can be a little hard to find, but if you follow the Google directions above you’ll see a little pullout parking area right in front of the entrance to the Silverdale Creek Wetlands.
Once you walk in a little ways you’ll see an informational sign. It’s really well done and kid-friendly. It’s worth stopping and taking a look at while explaining to your kids what a wetland is all about!
There’s no particular path here that you have to follow, but there are a couple of loop options. The beauty of either way you go? There are LOADS of bridges and boardwalks.
We include “checkpoints” when we rate our trails through our Jellybean Rating system. A checkpoint can include things like a waterfall, a permanent natural structure, a great view….and bridges and boardwalks! The more checkpoints there are in little adventure spot the easier it is to motivate kids to get to the next checkpoint!
As you go along you’ll see more signage about wetlands. They’re a little wordy so you may find yourself paraphrasing for your 3-year-old who was actually really hoping the sign was a treasure map to a pot of candy versus interesting information regarding where you are.
Jellybean Rating Summary of Silverdale Creek Wetlands
We gave Silverdale Creek Wetlands a 1/5 on our Jellybean Rating scale. It’s a great open space for kids to safely explore while parents can enjoy the beauty of the wetlands.
There are loads of things to keep them going; bridges, boardwalks, signs, and the possibility of seeing a frog or two!
Happy adventuring!
